Golf fans are in for a treat as some of the sport’s all-time greats descend on the 2026 U.S. Senior Open, one of senior golf’s marquee events. The tournament heads back to the award-winning Scioto Country Club from July 2–5, marking only the third time the storied venue has hosted and the first in more than ten years.
A Field Loaded with Major Winners and Top-Ranked Seniors
The U.S. Senior Open expects more than a dozen major champions in the field, making this one of the most talent-rich weeks on the PGA TOUR Champions calendar.
Defending champion Pádraig Harrington is chasing a third U.S. Senior Open title. The Irish star, sitting fourth in the Senior World Golf Rankings, has claimed this trophy twice in the last four editions and remains one of the senior circuit’s sharpest competitors, most recently finishing runner-up at last week’s Dick’s Open in New York.
Going back-to-back won’t be easy; the field is absolutely loaded with world-class competition. All of the world’s top-10 senior players are set to compete in Columbus. World No. 1 Stewart Cink was the runner-up here a year ago. Zach Johnson enters red-hot at World No. 2, riding three consecutive top-five finishes. Four-time major winner Ernie Els (No. 4) has been remarkably consistent, posting six top-12 results in his last seven events.
Richard Green (No. 8) arrives with back-to-back top-10 finishes building his momentum. Miguel Ángel Jiménez, who finished third here last year and sits at No. 9, will draw big crowd support and figures to be a legitimate threat. Retief Goosen (No. 7) has struggled at this event in recent years, but his two U.S. Open titles on the main tour years ago are a reminder of what he’s capable of on American soil.
Ohio Connections Worth Following
Beyond the world-ranked stars, a few local storylines add extra excitement to the week.
PGA TOUR winner Ryan Armour earns his first-ever U.S. Senior Open appearance. The Akron native and Ohio State alum notably pushed Tiger Woods to the limit in the 1993 Junior Amateur, finishing runner-up in that memorable battle.
Qualifier Rik Cramer of Dayton clawed his way into the field through a nail biting battle for the final spots, a remarkable achievement for the Head Professional at Miami Valley Golf Course. His familiarity with the Ohio courses could be a huge asset as he makes his first appearance at the event.
Rounding out the Ohio contingent is Bob Rittberger of Solon, also making his tournament debut. He arrives off a strong 2025 season that included a runner-up finish at the Met PGA Senior Championship.
