When is it?
The Leagues Cup Final is Sunday, August 25 at 7:15 p.m. at Lower.com Field. Columbus Crew vs. LAFC. If that matchup sounds familiar, that's because it's the same as the 2023 MLS Cup, hosted in Columbus and won by Columbus. The Crew won that 2-1, to claim their second MLS Cup in four seasons.
What is Leagues Cup?
The Leagues Cup started in 2019, featuring four teams from MLS and four teams from Mexico's top division - Liga MX. That expanded in 2023, when all 47 teams from both leagues were entered into the tournament. Both leagues pause their seasons to focus on Leagues Cup. The tournament begins with group play before the top 32 teams (including byes) move onto the knockout round. Columbus earned a bye so headed straight to the knockouts before fighting their way to the final. Here's how:
- Round of 32: Crew 4 - 0 Sporting Kansas City
- Round of 16: Crew 3 - 2 Inter Miami
- Quarterfinals Crew 1 - 1 NYC FC (Crew 4-3 on penalties)
- Semifinals: Crew 3 - 1 Philadelphia Union
What Does it Mean for the Crew?
