The 46th Annual Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon is one of the most anticipated running events to take place around the city, and is set to take place October 17-18. With races for all ages and types of runners, it's a guaranteed great time for individuals, couples, and families.

We've compiled a cheat sheet of everything you need to know, so you can be prepared for a fun filled weekend!

1) How many races are happening this weekend?

There are 4 races that will be happening throughout the weekend around downtown Columbus. Along with an additional run for kids ages 4-9 years old.

2) Are there any other events going on around Columbus that weekend?

There are a number of collegiate soccer and volleyball games going on around Central Columbus, and can be found here on our calendar. Ohio State's men's soccer team plays Michigan State at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Friday the 16th, and Otterbein's volleyball team hosts Case Western at home Saturday afternoon. Our friends at Experience Columbus also have a full list of non-sporting events going on in the city, if you're looking for something else.

3) Where should I eat after the race while I'm downtown?

While everyone is going to tell you the easiest place to go after the race is the North Market, there are also a variety of restaurants you can try that are downtown that will fuel your hunger after your successful race. Wario's is a great walk up sandwich shop that is most known their chicken caesar salad wrap and filling portions, or  Sunny Street Cafe will be the perfect option for a brunch following the race. For more dining options to help you prep or recover from the marathon, check out this athlete's guide to healthy eating in Columbus. If given the option on the restaurant's website to make a reservation, we recommend making one as seats often fill up fast on the weekends.

4) This is my first race in Columbus, any advice?

Check out our previous interview with Race Director, Darris Blackford. He goes in depth about what race day looks like for him, and gives tips and tricks for both racers and spectators. Anything from the best place to cheer your friends and family on, to how to motivate yourself to get through the race if you're fatigued. Fun fact, did you know they buy over 8,000 bananas for participants?

5) I'm not able to participate that weekend, are there any other races going on in Columbus?

Absolutely! Columbus was actually named one of "the best cities for running" this past year, and we have a variety of trails around the city, and multiple races that occur throughout the year. These include,

-OhioHealth Cap City 1/2 and 1/4 Marathon occurs on April 24th, 2027 in downtown Columbus, and even invites all participants, friends, and family to the Byers Xtra Mile Finish Line Party & PNC Post-Race Concert Celebration for the "Ultimate Celebration of You!"

-Columbus Sports Challenger Series is a year long challenge where participants will compete in 5 different races put on by the various sports teams around Columbus, Ohio. Once you complete it, you will receive a limited edition medal rack to hang up your accomplishments proudly on display.

-The 50th annual Columbus 10k Marathon presented by Barbasol will happen on June 6 2027, and is the oldest road race in Columbus history. They even include a 1/2 mile Kids Run if you want to get the whole family involved.

Just to name a few :)
