Both Intimate and Intimidating
Nestled snugly on the banks of the Olentangy River, stately Ohio Stadium is one of the most recognizable landmarks in all of college athletics. Home to the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, Ohio Stadium is the fourth largest on-campus facility in the nation. More than 36 million fans have streamed through the stadium's portals.
The stadium was built in 1922 at a cost of $1.3 million and refurbished in 2001 with upgrades since. Ohio Stadium is unique in its double-deck horseshoe design, allowing fans to view games from unobstructed vantage points.
Ohio Stadium is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places.
The stadium also has been the site of several entertainment and sporting events including US Soccer, NCAA Lacrosse and Ohio High School Athletic State Football Championships.
The campus of The Ohio State University is located only five miles north of downtown Columbus.
