Columbus Ranked Third-Highest Television Market in Viewership for Super Bowl XLV

Feb 09

We all know that Columbus is a major sports town. That was nationally recognized in 2008 when Scarborough Sports Marketing ranked Columbus at the #1 sports town in all the land.  Since then, Columbus continues to show it’s a city with fanatical fan base.

Earlier this week, Jeff Bell at Columbus Business First, reported that for this past weekend’s SuperBowl XLV, Columbus had one of the nation’s top household viewership ratings for the game, according to overnight numbers from Nielsen Co.

Ohio State to Play Georgia Twice in Football in 2020-2021

Jan 07

Less than a week before defeating Arkansas in the 2011 Sugar Bowl, it was announced, most prominently by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, that Ohio State and Georgia had agreed to play each other in a home-and-away series in 2020 and 2021.

The universities signed a “memorandum of understanding” on the games, with both being early season games and split between Columbus at Ohio Stadium and Georgia’s Sanford Stadium.  It hasn’t been determined yet which year the game will be played at which site.

A Glance Behind Ohio State’s Trip to the Sugar Bowl

Jan 05

With the Buckeyes winning the Sugar Bowl in thrilling fashion, there are two great local articles that provide great insight into Ohio State going to a major bowl game: the athletic department’s budget for the trip and the array of gifts given to the players for being a part of the bowl.  In late December, Tim May of the Columbus Dispatch wrote an article about the budgetary restraints Ohio State wanted to have in planning for New Orleans and Jeff Bell at Columbus Business First penned an article about the variety of “swag” the players received as gifts from the Sugar Bowl. Both are great reads! – LL

Columbus Football and Soccer Achievements

Dec 07

Congratulations to Bishop Watterson High School and Bishop Hartley High School in this year’s Ohio High School Athletic Association State Football Tournament for winning the Division III and Division IV championships, respectively, held in Massillon and Canton over the weekend. In addition to becoming State Champions, the schools made more history in becoming the first ever Franklin County and in particular, Columbus schools, to win championships in the same year!

Women’s soccer in Central Ohio had a tremendous amount of accomplishments in 2010. OSU women’s soccer concluded the season with a 17-5-2 record, tallying the second-most wins in program history and reached the College Cup for the first time. Otterbein made their first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance and Denison made the NCAA quarterfinals.  The Pickerington North girls soccer team lost in the OHSAA state final. – LL
