The Greater Columbus Sports Commission’s Website Receives NASC Outstanding Online Presence and PRSA Central Ohio Prism AwardsApr 26
ColumbusSports.org Redesign in 2012 Garners National and Local Recognition
The Greater Columbus Sports Commission received the 2012 Outstanding Online Presence Award by the National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) at its annual Sports Event Symposium hosted in Louisville in April. The conference made the announcement at the culmination of recognizing its outstanding members during the 2013 NASC Member Awards Luncheon. This award is given to an active member with the most outstanding web and social media presence. This included an organization’s website, event websites and social media elements. The online presence must market the community as a sports destination, and inform others about your organization or event. Entries were reviewed by a panel of their peers in the association and judged based on the criteria provided for each category.
The Ohio Tournament of Champions, billed as the largest one-day wrestling tournament in the world is set to return to Columbus Saturday at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
The event, which has been named America’s number one youth tournament, features seven divisions, each of which have separate weight classes. Six divisions exist for wrestlers of high-school age and below while an open division exists for post-high school wrestlers. Participants include wrestlers from as far away as Vermont, Georgia and Florida.
University Hosts Championships at Historic Selby Stadium for Second Time in Four Years
Central Ohio lacrosse is back! The Columbus Clippers aren’t the only local professional team opening play this spring, as the Ohio Machine is set to begin their second season of Major League Lacrosse play against the Denver Outlaws Saturday.
The opener will prove to be a big test for the Machine, which finished 2-11 last season and in eighth place of the eight-team league. The Outlaws finished the 2012 campaign with the best regular season record in the league at 11-3 before losing in the league championship game. The start time is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Selby Stadium on Ohio Wesleyan University’s campus.
The Ohio State University will be hosting the 2013 Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament, which will feature all 12 conference institutions, Apr. 26-29.
The event will take place at the Outdoor Varsity Tennis Center and it features free admission. Free parking will also be available around the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. In the case of inclement weather, the event will move to Ohio State’s indoor facility, Varsity Tennis Center.
