Former Head Coach for the USA Men’s Rugby Sevens team, Al Caravelli, will be at Ohio State University’s – Fred Beekman Park next Friday, May 25th at 4pm. Coach Caravelli will be running a FREE Olympic Rugby Clinic. This clinic is OPEN to all high school athletes who are interested in playing in the upcoming Columbus High School Olympic Rugby Conference and to all interested Rugby coaches.
WORLD’S SWEETEST RACE COMES TO COLUMBUS!
CHICAGO – The world’s sweetest race, the Hot Chocolate 15/5k, announced its 2012/13 season with 8 races across America showcasing Columbus’ debut November 18th. Both distances start and finish in the heart of downtown with the 15k running through Short North up High street into OSU.
Thousands of people from all over Central Ohio and the Midwest will gather in Columbus to enjoy the 18th Annual Asian Festival at Franklin Park on Saturday, May 26th, Sunday, May 27th, and Monday, May 28th.
The 2012 Asian Festival will feature Columbus’ only Dragon Boat Race, which is the fastest growing water sport on Memorial Day on Monday, May 28 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. in Genoa Park, along Scioto River, next to COSI. Admission and parking are free to the event. Groups who want to race in the Dragon Boat event can visit www.asian-festival.org to learn how to register and get more information.
Some great news from one of the GCSC’s favorite publications, SportsBusiness Journal & Daily…Ohio State led all BCS conference schools in spring game attendance this year with 81,112 fans, up from the past two years when attendance dipped due to poor weather.
The game marked the first time Urban Meyer appeared on the sideline as Ohio State coach. Coming off its second national championship in three years, Alabama drew 78,526 fans this year. That was a drop from the last two years, in which the school drew more than 90,000 fans for both games.

On Friday, May 11, it’s “play ball” at Columbus Commons from 4:00 – 9:45 p.m. The Commons will be the site for Major League Baseball’s legends of the game, including Reggie Jackson and Wade Boggs, to showcase their strength, accuracy and hitting prowess. The Grand Lawn will be transformed into a skills field, complete with hitting targets and a scoring system. There will be ample spectator viewing throughout the park where kids of all ages can reach out and catch a piece of history.
The Columbus Baseball Invitational – dubbed The Jewish World Series – is scheduled for May 17-20

In the fall of 2011, fans across the country had the chance to vote for one of four finalists they wanted to host the Pepsi MAX Field of Dreams game. The winner of the Pepsi MAX Field of Dreams contest was Columbus resident Tim Wisecup and on May 12th, he will be joined by 10 of his friends at Huntington Park to play a 6-inning baseball game against a team of MLB legends including Johnny Bench, Frank Thomas, Reggie Jackson and more. A full lineup by position can be seen below.
