With Central Ohio and Columbus considered by Golf.com the #2 best golf city in the country and home to four of the Top 100 U.S. golf courses according to Golf Digest, the Xempt Player Series (XPS) is bringing two more golf tournaments to the region.
In partnership with IMG, the Xempt Player Series is an innovative and visionary golfing program that provides an affordable path to allow aspiring professional golfers a better opportunity to pursue dreams of playing on the PGA, LPGA and Champions tour.
While golf fans around the country will be watching the Memorial, Muirfield Village will continue to establish Columbus as one of the country’s golf capitals. In 2013, Greater Columbus will be host to the Presidents Cup and make history as Muirfield will become the first U.S. golf course to have held the world’s three international tournaments in the Presidents Cup, Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup.
The nation will also see increased local support for the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield. As Jeff Bell at Columbus Business First points out, Nationwide has paired with the Memorial as its presenting sponsor. It marks the first time a Columbus-based company is the top sponsor for the tournament, which Jack Nicklaus founded in 1976. Nationwide also wants the telecasts to shine some of the spotlight on Central Ohio to boost Columbus’ image and name recognition. Two vignettes on the region will be aired during the weekend broadcasts on CBS, which will also identify Columbus as the tournament site even though it is played in Dublin.
It is that time of year again when dreams come true! All the time and dedication has paid off. A Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) state championship is in sight.
