As part of the festivities at the Clippers-Indians exhibition game, community leaders and supporters of the team were asked to take part in the 2010 Triple-A National Champions Ring Ceremony. The Columbus Clippers were crowned Triple-A National Champions over the Tacoma Rainers last September. Our very own Linda Logan handed Indians pitcher Zach McAllister his ring. On Saturday, March 26th, Greater Columbus Sports Commission Executive Director Linda Shetina Logan was honored by the Columbus Crew by performing the coin toss at the team’s home opener vs. the New York Red Bulls. Linda is an integral part of Crew history as she chaired the Local Organizing Committee for the opening of Crew Stadium, nationally-recognized then and now as the first stadium purposed for soccer in the country. #GCSC

There is nothing like winning a state championship. And, this weekend four Central Ohio high schools (Columbus Bishop Hartley, Canal Winchester Harvest Prep., Columbus Africentric Early College and Columbus Northland) will fight for that title. Ohio High School Athletic Association Boys Basketball Championships begin this afternoon, semi-finals continue on Friday with finals being played on Saturday.
As mentioned, four Central Ohio teams will be playing this weekend but what is even more exciting is all four divisions will be represented by a Central Ohio team.
Baseball season (and warm weather hopefully) are here! The Columbus Clippers are kicking off the 2011 baseball season with three exciting exhibition games at Huntington Park.
The Clippers will play their parent club, the Cleveland Indians, next Wednesday on March 30th at 1:05 PM. Come early to watch both teams take batting practice. Gates open at 11 AM. Tickets are still available starting at $10. The Clippers will be presented with their Triple-A National Championship rings in ceremonies prior to the game!

In a large showing of Columbus Sports Pride, the Columbus Crew will paint the town Black and Gold this week. During the week, there will be a Fan forum, kickaround on the Statehouse lawn and a neighborhood cleanup that will highlight a series of fan-oriented, public events leading up to First Kick 2011, the club’s home opener vs. New York Red Bulls on Saturday, March 26, at Crew Stadium. This weekend Columbus will host the OHSAA Girls Basketball Championships at the Schottenstein Center and NCAA Division I Women’s First and Second Rounds at St. John Arena.
Games for the OHSAA Girls Basketball Championships start today with championships being played for all four division Saturday. Columbus will be represented by two area high schools, Canal Winchester Harvest Preparatory and Pickerington HS North. Canal Winchester Harvest Preparatory will play in the Division IV semifinal at 8 p.m. versus Delphos Jefferson and Pickerington HS North will play in the Division I semifinal at 8 p.m. tomorrow night versus Twinsburg.
The Columbus Crew are ready for FirstKick in their 16th season in 2011 with a new team commercial and a lot of momentum and energy. Here’s a look into some of the things going heading into Saturday’s opener:

Wow! The Women’s Sports Report in its first year was a sold out event. Over 300 community leaders, sport administrators, coaches, athletes and fans were in attendance to celebrate girls and women’s athletic achievements in Central Ohio. A HUGE thank you goes out to all supporters of women sports and the Greater Columbus Sports Commission.

As 18,000+ Big Ten Basketball fans woke up in Indianapolis Sunday morning, they saw a front page article from the Indianapolis Star with an above the fold photo about Columbus’ Short North neighborhood.
The article spoke to how Columbus has created great neighborhoods with Short North and German Village Neighborhoods. The Indy Star also had an article about the great impact of sports tourism for the local economy and the work of their own Sports Commission.
The Columbus Blue Jackets take on the Los Angelas Kings tonight at Nationwide Arena, starting at 7 p.m. The Greater Columbus Sports Commission and FOX Sports Ohio are giving away two tickets to the first 10 Blue Jackets fans that call the GCSC office.
