Columbus has developed into one of the nation's emerging sports destinations in recent years due in large part to the opening of a variety of new facilities, including two multi-purpose arenas, the nation's first soccer-specific stadium built for a professional soccer team and a world-class track and field facility.
Huntington Park is home of the two-time Triple-A Baseball Champion Columbus Clippers (2010 and 2011). After it opened in 2009, Huntington Park was named "Ballpark of the Year" by DigitalBallparks.com, BaseballParks.com and BallparkDigest.com. The ballpark has a capacity of 10,100 and has hosted many events, including the Big Ten Baseball Tournament.
Columbus Crew Stadium is home of the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer, MLS Champions in 2008. Crew Stadium was named the "Best Soccer Stadium" in U.S. Soccer's 2002 "Best Of" Series. The stadium has hosted many national and international events, including the Women's World Cup, men's World Cup qualifiers, MLS All-Star Game and MLS Cup.
Nationwide Arena is home of the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets. In February 2004, ESPN The Magazine named it the "Ultimate Arena" and the Columbus Blue Jackets earned top ranking under "Stadium Experience."
Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center is home of The Ohio State University's men's and women's basketball teams and men's ice hockey team. In April 2005, it was the site of the NCAA Frozen Four, men's ice hockey's equivalent of the Final Four.
Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium was built to host national and international track and field events. It is home of The Ohio State University men's and women's track and field teams, men's and women's soccer teams and men's and women's lacrosse teams.
The Greater Columbus Convention Center routinely hosts regional and national volleyball, wrestling and fencing tournaments and each March is the site of the Arnold Sports Festival, the nation's largest sports festival.
Other facilities in the Greater Columbus area include 12 ice hockey facilities; Ohio Stadium, home of The Ohio State University football team; Berliner Park, the largest softball complex in the world with 31 fields on one site; Bill Davis Stadium, home of The Ohio State University men's baseball team; and National Trail Raceway, a drag-racing track that hosts National Hot Rod Association events.
Detailed information on these facilities and others can be found in the Venues section of this site.
